With proper use and maintenance, the boards will serve you for many years:
- Wooden boards are easy to clean, but remember to hand wash them after each use. Wipe them thoroughly and let them dry completely before putting them back in the cabinet.
- It is absolutely forbidden to wash wooden items in the dishwasher and leave them in water, as this weakens and damages the wood.
- Unpleasant odors can be easily eliminated with the help of salt and lemon - just sprinkle a spoonful of salt on the cutting board and rub with half a lemon.
About once every two months or more often, depending on how often you use it, rub the board with a natural oil, such as walnut, coconut, linseed or mineral oil (available at IKEA). Apply at least 2 coats (wait a few hours before applying the second coat; after applying each coat, wipe off excess oil with a clean cotton cloth).
- Over time, the board will lose its smooth surface due to damage to the fibers, which will become rough to the touch when in contact with hot objects.
- Of course, these fibers can be easily removed by sanding with sandpaper and reapplying oil. Both actions will help you restore a smooth surface to your cutting board.
